What is Respite & Short/Medium Term Accommodation?
Respite
Provides a planned break for caregivers and participants. It is more than a break – it is an opportunity to recharge and try new routines in a safe, supportive environment. Participants receive 1:1 support with daily activities, meals and personal care.
Short-Term Accommodation (STA)
Funded support for short stays (nights or weekends) away from home. STA ensures continuity of care while you are away. It is often used for weekends or short holidays within your NDIS funding.
Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA)
Supports longer stays (up to a few weeks) outside home, such as for family holidays or transitions. MTA provides stability and continuity of support over an extended break.
Core Budget: Flexible Support
All these options can be paid for from your NDIS Core budget (Assistance with Daily Life). You can use your Core support hours flexibly – for example, one weekend per month or up to 28 days per year. In practice, stays may be individual or shared, depending on your needs.

Benefits of Respite & STA/MTA
Respite and short/medium accommodation supports offer valuable outcomes for both participants and caregivers:
For Participants
Increased confidence and independence in a new environment; the chance to learn everyday skills (like managing routines or socialising) outside the family home. Sharing experiences with peers or staff can boost social connection and life skills.
For Families/Carers
Peace of mind knowing your loved one is safe and supported while you get a much-needed break. Quality time at home without caregiving duties; caregivers can rest, travel or attend to other commitments.
Build Confidence, Feel Refreshed
Short stays are structured and supervised, so they feel rewarding, not overwhelming. Our goal is that each participant returns home more confident and recharged, and carers feel refreshed and supported.
