Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) for NDIS Participants
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an NDIS–funded, evidence–based approach that helps people with disability manage challenging behaviours and improve wellbeing. It focuses on understanding why behaviours occur and using positive, respectful strategies to promote safety and independence. Behaviour support aims to enhance quality of life, meet your individual needs, and reduce behaviours of concern over time. As a registered NDIS provider, Ray Foundation Group delivers PBS in line with NDIS practice standards, ensuring all supports are safe, ethical and effective.

Our services
PBS for All Ages and Needs
Whether you are an adult or child, Ray Foundation’s PBS services are designed to empower you. We encourage children and young people to learn at their own pace, and help adults develop strategies for daily life and independence. Our practitioners specialise in supporting participants with autism, intellectual disability, psychosocial conditions or multiple diagnoses – anyone whose behaviour of concern is affecting safety or quality of life.
Getting Started with PBS
Accessing PBS is straightforward. It’s funded under the NDIS as a “therapeutic support” in your plan. If behaviour support hours are in your NDIS plan, we can get started right away. Our team can also assist you or your support coordinator with referrals. Simply call us or send an enquiry and we will guide you through the process.
Our friendly team will discuss your situation, explain PBS supports, and help you understand your options. We can arrange an initial consultation (usually about 10 hours) to start the assessment and planning process. We make it easy to begin – your plan manager or coordinator can also reach out on your behalf.
How Our PBS Services Help
Personalised Assessment
We start with a Functional Behaviour Assessment to identify triggers, patterns and supports. This lets us understand the environment and skills that influence behaviours.
Tailored Support Plan
Based on the assessment, we develop an individualised Behaviour Support Plan centred on your goals. This plan outlines proactive strategies to improve safety, communication and wellbeing.
Family & Carer Training
We don’t work in isolation – we train your family, carers and support workers on how to implement the plan. By involving everyone, we create a consistent, supportive environment at home, school or in the community.
Reducing Restrictive Practices
Wherever possible, we minimise the use of restrictive interventions. Our strategies focus on positive reinforcement and skill–building, protecting participants’ rights and freedoms.
Ongoing Monitoring
PBS is not one–off. We provide continuous support and regularly review your plan to make sure it’s working as your needs evolve. This way, the support stays relevant and effective.

FAQs
What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support, or PBS, helps understand why behaviours of concern happen and what support can make daily life safer, calmer and more manageable. It focuses on respectful, practical strategies that support the person’s wellbeing, communication, independence and quality of life.
Who can benefit from Positive Behaviour Support?
PBS can support children, young people and adults whose behaviours are affecting their safety, relationships, routines, learning or daily life. This may include people with autism, intellectual disability, psychosocial disability, developmental delay or other support needs.
What are behaviours of concern?
Behaviours of concern may include aggression, emotional outbursts, self-injury, property damage, withdrawing, refusing support, running away or other behaviours that place the person or others at risk. PBS looks at what is happening behind the behaviour, not just the behaviour itself.
Is Positive Behaviour Support funded by the NDIS?
Yes, Positive Behaviour Support may be funded through the NDIS if it is included in the participant’s plan. If you are unsure whether your plan includes behaviour support, Ray Foundation Group can help you understand your options.
What happens during the first step?
We start by learning about the participant, their routines, environment, strengths, needs and goals. This may include speaking with the participant, family, carers, support workers or other professionals involved in their care.
What is a Functional Behaviour Assessment?
A Functional Behaviour Assessment helps identify what may be triggering a behaviour, what the person may be trying to communicate, and what support strategies may help. It gives the practitioner a clearer picture before creating a Behaviour Support Plan.
What is included in a Behaviour Support Plan?
A Behaviour Support Plan usually includes proactive strategies, communication supports, environmental changes, skill-building ideas and clear guidance for families, carers and support workers. The goal is to support consistency across home, school, work or community settings.
Do families and support workers get guidance too?
Yes. PBS works best when the people around the participant understand the plan and use the same strategies. Ray Foundation Group can help families, carers and support teams feel more confident in supporting the participant day to day.
Can PBS help reduce restrictive practices?
Yes. A key goal of Positive Behaviour Support is to reduce the need for restrictive practices wherever possible by using positive, person-centred and evidence-based strategies that protect the participant’s rights, safety and dignity.
Does Ray Foundation Group provide PBS in Perth?
